1 MAY 2014

A teenager with a critical illness swapped his wheelchair for a super car when Kanner Wonsch visited his school and swept him away to the Goodyear racing track.

For teenager Michael Ferreira Rodrigues, living with infantile spinal muscular atrophy means his life has slowed considerably. But, on World Wish Day, he found himself in the fast lane – when he was greeted at school by a fleet of super cars, including a Ferrari, Lotus, Aston Martin, Alfa Romeo and several Porsches. After posing for photos in his favorite car – a Porsche – Michael was then chauffeured to a racing track in Colmar Berg with five friends, where they had lunch.

Speaking after he had seen the cars, he told wort.lu/en: “It's amazing. Sitting in a car like this is not something I get to do very often. I've no idea what will happen next!”

Michael's surprise was the icing on the cake for a day in which a long-held family dream was granted by Kanner Wonsch.

When asked what he wished for, Michael had initially requested that a book written by his late older brother, Fabio, be published.

Fabio, a big Manga comic book fan, suffered from the same degenerative genetic disorder as Michael. Before he passed away in 2011, he wrote a book called “Die Super Kids”.

Die Super Kids

“The day Fabio died, Michael told me straight away, I'm going to make sure his book gets published. Now he's succeeded. He's really passionate and we're very proud of Michael and Fabio,” Michael's mother, Belmira, told wort.lu/en, adding: “It's a magnificent gesture. There are no words to describe how I feel.”

The book was launched on April 29th at the Ernster book shop in City Concorde.

Altogether 500 copies of the book were published and can be purchased for €14.95. All proceeds will go to Rokku Mi Rokka, a charity chosen by Michael which helps children with disabilities in African countries.

As Michael’s busy book signing and special day came to a close at City Concorde, the Kanner Wonsch team were busy putting their finishing touches to the celebrations in the City Centre. As the light faded in Place Guillaume, the Hôtel De Ville shone in the bright blue colours of Kanner Wonsch. An expression of thanks to all of our supporters whose continued assistance allows us to achieve our mission to bring hope, strength and joy to children suffering from critical illnesses here in Luxembourg.

WISH Update

On World Wish Day 2014, Michael's wish was granted, and now the wish continues!

This past Tuesday, 31st March, 2015, Michael awarded the proceeds from the sale of the first 281 copies of his brother's book to his chosen charity Rokku Mi Rokka.

A small reception was organised at Belle Epoque at the City Concorde where Michael was greeted by the president and members of Rokku Mi Rokka, who graciously accepted the 4,200 euro donation.
